Under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, it is unlawful for "a provider of services" to discriminate against a disabled person.
At the time there was some doubt about whether or not this applied to online services and websites but any ambiguity was removed by the publication in 2002 of a Code of Practice which was based on the act. This code specifically referred to the application of the act to online services.
The law has been widely ignored in the past but this Code of Practice, combined with recent campaigning activity has changed this.
Accessibility is now coming under a lot of scrutiny and orgainsations like the Royal National Institute of the Blind (RNIB) are willing to help bring legal action against companies who fail to provide a certain level of accessibility.
MarketingNet can perform an accessibility audit to advise as to whether your website is meeting these legal requirements for accessibility.
Our standard audit comprises of 3 areas of investigation:
The results of these investigations are then compiled into a clear written report, and presented to the client.
