In May 2002 Imperial Tobacco acquired Reemtsma, a German based cigarette manufacturer. Prior to the acquisition, each company had its own corporate intranet with its own content management system. Running two sites in parallel, with duplication in terms of cost and effort, did not support the overall strategic aim of unifying the two organisations. Therefore there was a requirement to consolidate the two corporate intranets into a single global intranet presence with one common content management system (CMS).
MarketingNet understood the need to create a new unified corporate intranet, providing Imperial Tobacco with an enhanced internal communications medium. The "new" Intranet will provide a real-time platform to communicate key messages, raise awareness and educate employees globally. It will also provide a platform to leverage the skill base and knowledge that exists across the combined group.
MarketingNet first worked with the Imperial Tobacco Group to create the Investment Application for presentation to the senior management team. This project included business consultancy regarding the overall intranet strategy, technical consultancy, stakeholder buy-in meetings, content for the business case and a fully justified cost breakdown.
The Investment Application was successfully approved in full in April 2003. MarketingNet are now working with the Imperial Tobacco Group and their selected content management system provider to programme manage and deliver the intranet strategy elements over the coming months. In addition to migrating to one CMS, the project will also ensure that the Intranet is audience focused.
